The Rosebud Battlefield Tour takes you on a two-and-a-half-hour journey through history, storytelling, and the breathtaking landscapes where warriors once fought for their way of life.

Departing from Edge of the Camp Gift Shop in Garryowen, Montana, you’ll travel east along U.S. Highway 212 toward Rosebud Battlefield State Park—a vast, rolling landscape where the thunder of hoofbeats and war cries once filled the air. Along the way, hear the untold stories of strategy, survival, and the fierce battle that erupted just one week before Custer’s Last Stand.

Once at the battlefield, we’ll step off the bus for 20 minutes, giving you time to take in the sweeping views and imagine the chaos and courage of that fateful day. As we loop around the battlefield, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how this fight changed the course of history—with warrior tactics, surprise attacks, and a dramatic showdown involving the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and General Crook’s forces.

What to Expect

  • This is a 2.5-hour bus tour.
  • 12 seats are available on this tour.
  • Bathrooms are available at Edge of the Camp Gift Shop and Ok-A-Beh Marina.
  • The tour bus is air conditioned.
  • The tour bus is wheelchair accessible.
  • Service animals are allowed on the bus.
  • Minimal walking is expected.
  • First Aid kit and fire extinguisher are available.
  • In case of inclement weather, guests will not deboard the bus unless they need a bathroom break.

What to Bring

  • Bring a printout of your confirmation page or have it available on your phone to show the ticket agent at the Apsáalooke Tours ticket desk when you arrive. You will then receive your paper ticket.
  • Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly, umbrellas for sun/rain are recommended.
  • Water and snacks are welcome on the bus. Food is not provided.
  • Any necessary prescription medications.

Private Tours Available

This tour is available as a private tour. Guests will be accompanied by a guide in the guests’ vehicle. Private tours can be scheduled Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. (The last tour starts at 3 p.m.) Private tours are available May 1-June 30.
